A nurse anesthetist assists doctors during surgery or other operations to give local or intravenous anesthesia. They put on mask on patient's face and regulate gauges to monitor inflow of oxygen and other gases required by patient for breathing. It then administers anesthesia in controlled environment and perform it as per medical standards.
Nurse anesthetists are required to gather medical information of patients' history before administrating anesthesia to them. It will help them to decide which mode of anesthesia will suits them best. They will get to know about blood pressure and heart rate statistics of patient.

An anesthetist should have sound communication skills so that she can communicate well with her patient. It will help her to build a comfort level with patient and put him at ease. An anesthetist is an advanced level program, hence you need to complete up your graduation before pursuing this course. You need to work as a registered nurse after your associates or bachelor's degree for at least one year to be eligible for anesthetists post. After you have got one year experience as a registered nurse, you have to undergo a 36 months training to be efficient enough to administer anesthesia and work as anesthetist
