What Nursing Graduates Should Know When Job Hunting

Being a fresh graduate is like a double-edged sword. On one hand, it gives you a great sense of achievement for having taken on the 4-year course and finished it. On the other, it is the beginning of a new chapter in one's life as a professional nurse.

But with so many other professional nurse hopefuls out there, it can be quite a challenge to land a job. These days, it is especially hard for fresh nursing graduates to find a job, as there is stiff competition among other new graduates and professional nurses altogether.

So, how do you make yourself get noticed? What do you do to make employers want to interview you and get to know you better?

What Nursing Graduates Should Know When Job Hunting

Well, here are some useful tips on how to do that.

1. The Power of Volunteering

It is expected that it will take time before you can land your first job. So, while you wait for that interview, try to search for activities that are productive. Try becoming a volunteer nurse. While you may think that being one is not worth the time and effort, think again. This is a great experience for you to learn new skills and be more aware of how nursing politics and work ethics work. Plus, this move may even land you a job. Volunteering at a medical facility that you like can give you opportunities to meet new people in the medical field. When they see you working hard, they might offer you a regular job.

2. Impress Them With Your Resume

Impress potential employers with your resume. You do not need to send them a three-page resume, citing all of your skills and experience. A one-page resume will suffice. Just make sure that you put all the skills and experiences that are related to the company or hospital that you are applying for.

3. Do Not Be Discouraged

When looking for jobs, you might encounter ads that say they prefer applicants with a one or two-year experience. Even if you do not have any experience yet, make sure to send them an application.
Remember that the word they used was 'prefer'. That gives you a chance to land a job at that facility.

One attitude that employers want for new nurses is confidence and drive. During the interview, show them that you are really eager to get the job and work hard to worthy of the position.
