Nursing As A Second Career

For many reasons, a significant number of professionals have now taken nursing into consideration as their second career. For some, their current professions are not as rewarding as before. For others, their current job is not financially satisfying. Whatever their reasons are, one thing is for certain- choosing nursing as a second career has its benefits.

What are these benefits? Why are more and more people more inclined to take up nursing? What makes it more interesting? How does the nursing profession affect the lives of those who have it?

1. It is value-laden.

Being exposed to the miracle of life and the sadness of death makes nurses more appreciative of people and life in general. Being a nurse also gives them opportunities to meet different people who face different challenges in life. In essence, the field of nursing is rich in values and learning.

2. It is rewarding.

Despite the toughness of the job and responsibilities, at the end of day, it always feel rewarding to have been able to help and assist others. Many nurses rarely give up on the profession, as it is truly one of the most satisfying careers out there.

3. It is financially satisfying.

Even though most nurses work long hours, they do get paid well. Their efforts are well compensated. This may only be icing on the cake, as nursing is first and foremost, a vocation, but it doesn't hurt to earn from it.

4. Learning never stops.

By meeting different people and being exposed to different ailments, medical technology and development, nurses learn something new everyday. Conferences and conventions are also offered which makes nurses become more in touch with what's new in the industry and in the medical world as a whole.

5. It gives life lessons.

Being able to connect with people and know of their experiences give life lessons to nurses. These learning allow them to apply it to their life and to people around them.

6. There is growth.

Many professionals in the medical field, like paramedics, are now taking bridge programs. Paramedic to RN programs are now popular because more and more people know how good a career move it is. Being a nurse, gives you more career flexibility and growth. 

You can even become an educator if you take up further studies or focus on certain specializations. Whether its pediatric, psych or rehabilitation nursing, among other things, the nursing field comes with endless career possibilities.
