What is the Worst Thing About Working As a Registered Nurse?

Overall, I really enjoy working as a registered nurse. The pay is very competitive, my patients can be wonderful to work with, you get to meet lots of interesting people, and you can know that your job makes a real difference in the lives of others.

But like every other job, nursing certainly has its ups and downs. There are days when a nurse may question whether or not they made the right career decision. In fact, some really bad days may even make you want to quit, and move on to another career un-related to nursing altogether.

What is the Worst Thing About Working As a Registered Nurse?

While these days are rare in nursing, they do happen. As a nurse, I have learned to take the good with the bad. Roll with the punches, and try to have a better day tomorrow. In most cases, the feelings of negativity or despair will pass as things gradually improve.

Some of the things that can potentially go wrong may include: Dealing with difficult patients, rude co-workers, dealing with too many patients, satisfying all of the rules and requirements, dealing with politics, and more.

But aside from all of those things, there is one thing that I have dealt with that was by far the worst thing I have experienced as a nurse: Seeing a patient die. Watching a very nice elderly patient die, with her family by her side in tears, was one of the most difficult things I have experienced as a nurse. Unfortunately, death sometimes comes with the territory.
