As a registered nurse, one can perform different duties which include educating and treating patients and providing guidance and emotional support to an individual's family members. To obtain a nursing license, students must graduate from a standard nursing program and have to pass a national licensing examination called NCLEX-RN. To get ready for a wider scope of nursing practice, many RNs with a diploma later enter Bachelors in Nursing programs. They can get a staff nurse position but those who are looking to expand their nursing career, can work in the direction of BSN by completing an RN to BSN program. 

Accelerated BSN programs are also obtainable for those who pass a higher or bachelors degree in another field and are fascinated in moving into nursing. However for administrative positions, a bachelor's degree in nursing is essential and is a precondition for admission to graduate nursing programs in consulting, research and teaching.
